Currently Our research area is to investigate the function of potential oncogenes which were carried and amplified on DMs in ovarian cancer development. More than that, the clinical relevance of these oncogenes with ovarian cancer is also our interest. By doing these, We hope we can find some novel targets that could have remarkable value in clinical treatment of ovarian cancer.

Dr. Huang interested in cytogenetics, cell proliferation and apoptosis in cancer cells for several years. The current research interest focuses on the relationship between regulation of cytoskeleton and formation and stability of double minutes, extrachromosomal genetic elements, in malignant tumor cells. The researches may provide insights into potential target genes of cell cytoskeleton pathway in formation and stability of double minutes.

More than 10 years ago, I devoted to the function study of RAB5A gene in metastasis in lung adenocarcinoma and the next few years an expression library was established by using high metastatic lung adenocarcinoma cell line Anip973 to screening more tumor associated genes . In recent years, the relationship of double minutes in the occurrence and development of tumor was conducted.

One of our research interests is to preserve the genetic resource of northern Chinese populations and study their genetic diversity. We have collected matched case and control samples for several diseases that have been of long-standing interest to the Department. These include autoimmune diseases, T2D, schizophrenia and HIV infection. We carried out association studies on these samples and demonstrated their genetic susceptibilities for these common complex diseases. Natural selection in different environments has played a role in shaping human genetic patterns. We have followed up the most highly differentiated non-synonymous SNPs identified by the HapMap project using resequencing data and additional tests for natural selection, and demonstrated that highly differentiated SNPs are often good indicators for positive selection in the human genome.

We have focused on the association between the gene polymorphisms and psoriasis, Grave’s disease, lactase persistence and HIV-1 infection. We have collected matched case and control samples and carried out the association studies. It was demonstrated that some SNPs was important for genetic susceptibilities of these common complex diseases.

Our research interests focus on the structure and function of double minutes chromosomes (DMs) on solid tumors, especially ovarian cancer. In our research, ovarian cancer cell lines were applied in functional studies, together with analysis on the histological parameters of clinical cases to interpret the function of genes on DMs worked on the ovarian cancer and a novel method to prognosis, diagnosis and individual treatment of ovarian cancer.

I had extensive experience in population genetics, association studies and cancer epidemiology. Now our research is focused on the clinical biomarkers of colorectal cancer. We study the molecular structure of Double minutes (DMs)-the marker of extrachromosomal gene amplification in human cancers. We analyze the molecular mechanism of the generation of DMs by studying the structure features of DMs and the aberration of the chromosome. How the gene amplification events are initiated and how the DMs are formed are particularly interested by using the cytogenetical, molecular-genetical methods and bioinformatic analysis.

Our research interests focus on the molecular structure and generation models of double minutes (DMs) in human tumors. We applied array CGH, FISH, NimbleGen capture array and high-throughput sequencing to analyze DMs, constructed DMs structures, and completed the whole sequences of DMs genome. DMs are the hallmarks of extrachromosomal gene amplification related to tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Molecular structure research of DMs provides us not only the amplified oncogenes but also the underlying molecular mechanisms for DMs formation. Our study indicated that high-throughput sequencing would be a powerful tool for researching the structure of DMs in solid tumors.
